This sequence demonstrates how CGI and physical effects can be used together to create a cost effective solution for many scenarios. The shot required a set of airline seats to drop from the sky and hit a moving land rover. To physically drop seats would have been impractical, as they would not be travelling at terminal velocity on impact. Instead MACDYNE rigged a Land Rover with a large nitrogen cannon in the back of the vehicle. On cue it fired a large ram into the ground, thrusting the back of the vehicle into the air, giving the impression that an object had hit the front of the Jeep. In postproduction MACDYNE modelled and animated a set of CGI seats to fall from the sky and hit the car. Also a clean up process was required to paint out any visible parts of the physical effect rig.
