To recreate a traditional cinema of that era, the art department built a set with a blue screen in place of the cinema screen. MACDYNE used the blue screen for reference to composite a traditional, poorly kept cotton screen. Onto which, black and white footage was added. To finish the effect an animated dust was added to mimic the light form the movie projector.
